Here's my thoughts

I posted this on a friend's status at facebook.  I was amazed at myself for being so bold.  It was a conversation about homeschooling but also some things about public school thrown in.  I also added it to a Facebook note, but the point of the post got lost along the way and so I decided to put it here so I could remember what I was thinking without the arguing that ensued after posting it.

Here's my thoughts.......

My grandpa has an 8th grade education because he had to drop out of school to go to work and help support his family(parents and 10 siblings). What I'm about to say is going to be controversial and I don't care.

An education did not enhance my grandpa's life. A LACK of education didn't hinder it. He is an 85 year old man who is VERY comfortable in his retirement, has a very nice home, pays cash for nice vehicles, takes my grandma around the country on trips, doesn't want for anything financially speaking. He has always been a great husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He did that with hard work, worked his way up the ladder, was savvy with money, saved a lot, only bought what was NEEDED during his life.

I respect my grandpa more than any man on Earth and I am proud of him and what he accomplished in life. THIS is why I put absolutely no stock or faith in the government education system. Our lives are what we make of them. I want to be like my grandpa some day and I am BLESSED to be facilitating that same lifestyle for my children.

  1. My grandma has an 8th grade education so she could help on the family farm. She still held jobs during WWII (at a dress factory and a hospital), and she has been a wonderful nurturer to our family. The key to making choices is to always seek what God's will is for our lives. Many times there are multiple good choices. I wish more people realized that! :)
