You are what you eat. We all have heard this, but I've really been thinking about it a lot lately. The more I try to switch over to healthier food options, the more I find the world pulling back at me....eat this, yummy, don't you remember how good that tastes?
I have made a decision. Not that this is really a new decision, but more of a commitment to an old one that I've not followed as well as I would like. I'm going to buy as much locally produced food as possible. That honestly isn't going to be that difficult where we live. We are BLESSED!! I already get these things locally or from somewhere in the state: beef, raw milk, eggs, flour, oats, peanut butter, yogurt, raw honey, veggies, and fruits. For things I can't buy locally grown, I'm going to buy organically grown things. For example, we get chicken from a great farm in Texas. I fully believe in their practices and how they raise their chickens. I have a great source via the buying club I'm a part of. All of the other staples I need can come from there. If something we love comes from a box or a package, I'll find a homemade alternative. If I can't come up with a homemade alternative, we'll stop eating it. Period. Fast food....NO. Eating out......well, we've started doing this periodically and it's really nice. We'll still continue to do this every once in awhile. :) The kids will be happy about that ;)
I'm going to be canning foods this Summer.....gotta learn the basics of that for sure!
Another decision I'm making is to get back into some sort of regular exercise. I'm tired of preaching to my children about healthy living, yet my body doesn't entirely reflect that. Enough is enough.
As for the cost, yeah if I sit and think about it, it's overwhelming. Unfortunately it costs more to eat well. That's just a fact. I refuse to settle for inferior nutrition just to save some money. That's the one "Dave Ramsey" principle that I don't agree with. He says eat beans and rice.....but I have full confidence that Jehovah-Jireh will provide much more than just beans and rice!!
